The most important thing is good *design*. To explain good design would take a book to describe.

I’d probably say to keep it simple- it would be nice to incorporate different defining items in relation to the type of services that the company provides, but too much will cloud the message

I went to art school about 15 years ago and I have been in the sign business the same amount of time. One thing I have learned is…make the logo “reproduction friendly”.

Remember that this logo may be reproduced for more than just letterheads, business cards and websites. The resolution of digital files, i.e, tif, gif and jpeg, should be very high for larger reproduction possibilities. You should also have a vector version (this means outline version) Also, have a couple of different versions for easy branding, such as a 2 color version (if it is a 4 color process design) or even a black & white version. This makes for easier branding.

Of course making a logo versatile is important as it may be applied to a variety of uses from large to small but the most important element in its creation is to talk to and listen to the group or person for whom you are creating the logo. It must reflect the desires of the the organization and its leadership. Translating that into an image is your task. I just did this a week ago. In fact this is like any commissioned piece of art–just smaller. I had a meeting with the director of the organization and heard about what they did in the community, what image they wish to portray to people and his vision. That is the real heart of the matter. If you are competent on the technical end, the drawing of it will happen. Get to know your customer and listen to all they have to say. I’ve created logos and corporate art for both local and national organizations.

I’m a Graphic Designer and I think the most important goals in designing a logo are (in order)

1.- That the client (I mean the Logo owner) use it with pride, that he is so satisfied that he even wants to wear it, use it, contemplate it and look it as a Banner, a Flag, a Guiding Light for his company. Create the feeling that the colors of a team or the badge of a club gives to the wearer. Pride and Satisfaction

2.- That communicates clearly to the public/clients of the company

3.- Agree, printing Friendly, less colors, harmonic but simple, trying no “photographic” logos.

4.- Persuasive, that beats the competence.

5.- Simple. The logo must become as easy to read as any symbol. It have to reach the point that people gets familiarized with it as the cross, the star, the pumpkin, the shell, the eagle, etc. They are simple symbols. Clean and greatly identifiable.

You must first decide what you want the logo to convey about the company. Then you need to make sure that there is no duplication of your design or DBA in your company’s field. Then the design needs to be in black and white first. Color can be added much later but does not need to be the first requirement. Clean, clear, crisp designs need to be created.

when creating a LOGO for a company, it should be attractive, eye catching..MOST IMPORTANTLY : something that a person can recognize easily and every time they see this logo they know what it represents, also a good logo should be a solid iconic symbol, and should represent some short of pride towards something, whether it be the company itself, the purpose of the company so on, consumers tend to put faith and trust in a company that has a good strong prideful appearance, and the best way to show that is through a LOGO.

The logo should pertain to the business, but should be original, something that catches the eye. Besides the logo depending on the business your in, you may want to use a colored background and/or printing instead of black and white. Good luck in your new business.
