Hard *** book to follow, good job.

I think I’ve had the book for close to a year by now-but I’m still not positive as to HOW to practice it. I don’t have an animation lighttable…yet. Previously, I just mimicked his examples (and did learn stuff)-but still feel like I’m missing a lot.

Also, Anime animators would normally work on full scenes, including the effects, while in american animation, they have an effects crew.

It’s not that I want to make you upset or something , but anime use 8frames a second , not 2. Both are beautiful in my opinion.

Hey retard, they use about 2 frames a second and repeat the same frames OVER AND OVER for anime, while western animators used to hand-animate 24 frames per second, and beautifully, with hand drawn backgrounds. If you can’t appreciate the art and time that went into it, well, then you’re a lost cause. I hope you don’t breed.

actually if anything I’d say that thier would be lesss animation in anime than thier is in theese cartooons because in animes the characters are usually very detailed making them hard to animate so the animators use shortcuts so there :P

Very nice work. Wow. Great artist, too. Good movement capturing. And WesleyRiot, I’d love to see your work, based on your comment. Guessing you’re also an animator?

    Great! just great!

Look dude, that you prefer japanese animation doesn’t give you the right to scorn all the western animation geniuses. I too like Studio 4ÂșC, Miyazaki, etc. I’m not saying they ****. Quality is everywhere.

You calling Richard Williams amateurish is like calling Bruce Lee a *****. You made a fool of yourself for everyone to see.

  20. By WesleyRiot on Jul 18, 2009 | Reply

not to mention the over reliance in motion capture. fucking motion crapture.

  21. By WesleyRiot on Jul 20, 2009 | Reply

amateurish? idiot, this is an animated replica of the book cover, this is what it looks like!

What the hell are you talking about?

  23. By darcwiz on Jul 23, 2009 | Reply

I wouldn’t call it amateurish having heard Richard Williams speak, seen tons of his work,& knowing who his mentors were,he deserves exclusion from the terrible pack out there & at least some admiration for remaining true to 2D as an art form.I agree Japanese animation is amazing and obeys a different ‘physics’ from that of the West.I’ve seen good stuff from both ends. Those legends u mentioned are great but true animators are everywhere if u look.Sorry if I came out blunt, animation is my life.

  24. By lindersi on Jul 26, 2009 | Reply

the “true” animator is hard to find still, i like to think that such an “true animator” keeps on working with handdrawings and very less computerbackup. That is what i adore at mr. Miyazakis work, when i heard right he keeps it that way with “ponyo”.
    Got some more recommendations?
    Ever watched “gertie the dinosaur”?

thank you for reminding me of all that great names, got some nice youtubing behind me searching for those guys.
But i wouldnt call this clip here amateurish, though its just a test you can see some pretty nice things going on… different styles of animation.
